Weddings at Greyfriars, Winchelsea

Tucked away in the historic town of Winchelsea, Greyfriars is one of the most unique and character-filled wedding venues in East Sussex. Surrounded by medieval streets, ancient stonework and sweeping countryside views, Greyfriars offers couples a truly distinctive setting for a relaxed and memorable wedding day.

As an experienced East Sussex wedding photographer, I’ve worked across nearby locations including Rye, Battle and Hastings, and venues like Greyfriars always stand out for their atmosphere, history and incredible photographic opportunities.

A Unique and Historic Wedding Venue

Greyfriars is not your typical wedding venue — and that’s exactly why you'll love it. With its historic architecture and intimate setting, it is perfect for you if you are looking for something a little different from larger, more traditional venues. The character of the building, combined with the charm of Winchelsea itself, creates a relaxed and authentic feel throughout the day.

If you are planning an intimate or smaller wedding in East Sussex, Greyfriars offers a setting that feels both personal and visually stunning.

Wedding Photography at Greyfriars

From a photography perspective, Greyfriars is a dream venue. The textures of the stone walls, soft natural light, and surrounding scenery all combine to create beautiful, timeless images. Just moments from the venue, the quiet streets of Winchelsea and the surrounding countryside provide incredible backdrops for relaxed couple portraits.

My approach to wedding photography is natural and documentary-led — capturing real moments as they happen rather than staging them. At a venue like Greyfriars, this works perfectly, allowing the character of the day and location to shine through in every image.

Local Knowledge Across East Sussex

Being based in Bexhill-on-Sea, I regularly photograph weddings across East Sussex, including coastal venues, countryside barns and historic locations like Greyfriars. This local knowledge allows me to plan the best spots for portraits, understand the light throughout the day, and ensure everything runs smoothly from a photography perspective.

Whether you're planning a full-day celebration or a smaller, more intimate wedding, I provide flexible coverage tailored to your day.

Do you photograph half day weddings at weekends?
Yes. Unlike many photographers who only offer full day coverage, I regularly photograph half day weddings across Sussex, including weekend celebrations.
How many hours does a half day wedding package include?
Most half day wedding packages include 6 hours of coverage, which is usually enough to capture the ceremony, confetti, portraits and part of the reception.
Do you travel across Sussex for half day weddings?
Yes. I photograph weddings throughout East Sussex and West Sussex including Bexhill, Hastings, Eastbourne, Lewes, Rye and Brighton.
Is half day coverage suitable for a small wedding?
Absolutely. Half day coverage is perfect for intimate weddings, registry office ceremonies and smaller celebrations where the focus is on the ceremony and time with family and friends.
Can we upgrade to full day coverage later?

Yes. If your plans change and you'd like more coverage, it’s usually possible to upgrade depending on availability.
